This is a rather cute romantic comedy location in the Chinese community in one piece of Unique York about a widowed mother who discovers that she is pregnant and who prefers not to express who the father of the unborn child is.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Saving Face! Click Here

To complicate matters, her daughter is a successful doctor who has astronomical potential in her chosen profession who does not have the time or apparent inclination to peruse out a mate for herself.

The choice of Unique York as the backdrop for this narrative is symbolic in the city’s role as a gateway to the current world. The sage itself is replete with contrasts of novel versus weak culture, traditional family forms and authority structures versus the unusual, passe versus unique cultures etc. In one scene mother and daughter are having two conversations with|not with each other: the mother addresses her daughter in Chinese, the daughter addresses her mother in English.

As the movie proceeds the viewer is drawn into the account almost imperceptibly so great so that one begins to empathise with each of the characters rather than purchase sides. Joan Chen is in kindly create as the restrained mother, keeping her secret but managing all the while to beget face for the family name. Her cautious daughter, torn as it were, between feeble and original, is often risky about the direction in which to go but which ultimately achieves resolution in the final scene.

This is a account of treasure and life cutting across venerable and cultural boundaries. The memoir is told in a gentle and charming plan, lending poise to the proceedings and allowing for the possibility for change to be affected by the rather revolutionary actions of an individual and for late but notable cultural changes to occur which are, in their fill procedure rather monumental.

The movie kept my attention throughout and although there are a number of minor issues which drew my attention I did not glean them sufficently distracting to disturb my enjoying. Although lightweight in a intention it is a good experience which throws some light on a number of considerable social issues. Although my 11 year conventional son was disinclined towatch my fifteen year customary daughter enjoyed the movie and was comfortable with the issues exposed.

Good stuff.

My 48 year venerable mother is pregnant, has shown up at my doorstep with a suitcase and to top it off I have objective discovered the joys of appreciate…now what am I going to do?

Ma is like an alien in NYC though she has lived in Flushing Queens for years in that she speaks no English and has lived in the insular confines of her parent’s home. That is until her father throws her out for not naming the father of her unborn child.

Wilhelmina (Michelle Krusiec) is a surgeon, has a very nice apartment in the Lower East Side of NYC and likes Women. She has almost no free time to date, is always at the hospital working and to assign it bluntly: Ma showing up on her doorstep asking for shelter is an imposition…to say the least.

But, in Alice Wu’s “Saving Grace” this “imposition” naturally evolves into a re-connection between Wil and her mother that also blossoms into a deeply loving and respectful relationship. Wu, who also wrote as well as directs here has fashioned a film that steers distinct of the chasm of melodrama and sentimentality that often plagues this type of scenario with her crisp dialogue, acidic wit and proper directing of the mise en scene.

The character of Ma is played by the hauntingly comely Joan Chen and in Chen’s hands Ma transcends her physical and social limitations and becomes a full-bodied, open-hearted person: ready for the prospect of really living, ready to give birth and not timorous of the future and maybe even finding a father for her baby.

“Saving Grace” is very wise, it is extremely charming and it is ultimately poignant in the manner of “The Joy Luck Club” or “Hanging Up.” It is determined that Wu shared a unbelievable relationship with her Mother and this film stands as the ultimate Worship Poem to that relationship.

Everyone knows the film and loves it, that’s why we’re here checking it out on this page. But what about this DVD package? If you peruse at the imprint, you have to interrogate is it really worth it.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Help!! Click Here

When I first read about the Deluxe Edition, I view the sign would be around $50 like most other Deluxe Edition DVDs out there. At $95, this is procedure too remarkable for what they’re offering. Yes, you net all this:

- a reproduction of Richard Lester s new annotated script

Buy,Download, Or Stream Help!! Click Here

- 8 lobby cards

- poster

- 60-page book with rarely seen photographs and production notes from the movie

… but unless they are signed by at least one Beatle, I wouldn’t pay that distinguished. Yes, Richard Lester’s annotated script is tremendous, but wait awhile and you’ll probably rep a reproduction online sometime. The lobby cards and poster are enormous, but those are not the main reasons for the tag inflation. The 60 page book would seem to be the main reason for the brand hike, but leer at other Beatles books out there. The paperback version of The Beatles Anthology has 368 pages, weighs 2.2 pounds, and has over 1,300 photographs. The impress? LESS THAN A THIRD of what this Deluxe Edition of Succor is going for.

Yes, all these extras are nice, but it’s not worth the stamp, and I’m a substantial Beatles nut who buys everything they compose. At this moment, I’m going to purchase the regular edition which has been restored with enormous portray and a 5.1 soundtrack. Plus, the second disk has vast extras (could be better if they had Paul or Ringo commenting) that will suffice. Especially for the mark.

Drop the note on this Deluxe Edition, guys. If you do that, people will grasp.

This was the first Beatles film I saw. From the first minutes of the film I was zigzag! I became an instant Beatle fan.

A religious cult is after Ringo because he is in possession of thier sacrificial ring. There are several failed attempts to derive the ring: stealing it at night as he sleeps, grabbing it when he posts a letter, the elevator scene, getting the ring at a restaurant and even sawing around his drum dwelling so he will descend through to the basement as the Beatles picture “You’re Gonna Lose That Girl”. Despite these failures, Clang (Leo McKern), the cult leader, is more clear than ever to derive the ring from Ringo!

Ahme (wonderfully played by Eleanor Braun), a priestess of the cult is secretly working with the Beatles to support them out of harms arrangement.

Added to the mix are two bumbling scientists Professor Foot and Algernon (Victor Spinetti and Roy Kinnear respectively), and a Scotland Yard superintendent played by Patrick Cargill. To Cargill everything is “illustrious” (the renowned Ringo, distinguished Beatles, illustrious opinion) .

John, Paul, George and Ringo are all charming as ever. The settings rush from England, to the ski slopes of Austria to the Bahamas.

There are so many comic things in this movie that you can’t objective glimpse it one time and find them all.

The soundtrack to this movie is awesome: “Serve!”, “The Night Before”, “I Need You”, “Another Girl”, “You’re Gonna Lose That Girl”, “You’ve Got To Cover Your Appreciate Away”, “She’s A Woman” and “Brand To Shuffle”.

It’s such a shame that MPI is no longer producing this movie. I truly hope another distributor will be able to net the rights so it will once again be available.

It is well worth the disaster of hunting a copy of this movie down because everything about it is timeless.

I have this on vhs and have been waiting for this glowing Zeffirelli production from the MET to be released on dvd. Stratas and Carreras are astonishing. 28+ years later, the audience level-headed applaud the area when the curtain goes up on Acts 2 and 3. Bravo to all fervent.

There seems to be a miniature confusion with Mike Smith’s review of the various versions of “La Boheme”. Yes, the 1977 DG version was historic…I remember it well. But Scotto WAS Mimi and not Musetta…(that role was sung by Maralin Niska) . The 2008 EMI version was a total kill (as most of the EMI HD DVDs which it offered) . The 1977 DG version is the BEST, in my view, because it offers us the Mimi of the colossal Teresa Stratas and not Scotto as Mike Smith states…Scotto is Musetta on this DVD and is astonishing. I was a gargantuan fan of Scotto and would give my perceive teeth to have her Met performances of “Butterfly” and “Il Trittico” on DVD.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Giacomo Puccini: La Boheme! Click Here

The combination of Stratas and Carreras on this DVD is overwhelming. Pavarotti was a blooming singer but could never muster up enough emotion in any of his roles. Plus we have this incredible and atmospheric Zeffirelli Production!!!

I strongly recommend this version. DG does a huge job with remastering the video and audio of the broken-down Pioneer Met DVDs giving us perfect clarity and surround sound. Once you Notice and HEAR Stratas, you will want no other Mimi.

I HAVE ADDED THE FOLLOWING COMMENT ON OCTOBER 28, 2009: I received this modern DVD yesterday. DG has done a masterful job with it. The DTS 5.1 sound is out-of-this world….sounds as if one were actually sitting in the audience at the MET. The video is remarkable brighter and clearer than was the mature Pioneer version. It has more language choices. There are two righteous mini-documentaries: Zeffirelli working the La Boheme rehearsal at the Met and one on Puccini. This is a MUST rob.

The rating is for the lousy transfer of the modern Tartan DVD release. TETSUO is one of my top-ten approved movies of all time. Purchasing this current release represented a quadruple-dip on this title. First was a bootleg vhs tape aid in the early 90’s followed by the official Fox-Lorber tape, then the first DVD. The main reason, other than my savor for the movie, for buying again was for the recent 5.1 sound mix because TETSUO has a grand soundtrack. Tartan did a gargantuan job with the remix. I cherish it! It’s really impressive in my home theater. But the image doesn’t live up to the audio, especially projected on my colossal shroud. It looks like they unbiased did a cheap transfer of the PAL master (Tartan is a UK company, I own) to NTSC because it’s riddled with artifacts like ghosting during rapidly movements (there’s a lot of that in this film) and the image is very soft and contrasty. The musty Fox-Lorber DVD from ‘98 has more image detail, especially in shadows, and none of that homely ghosting. I assumed that since it’s 2005 now and most DVD companies have kept up with the situation of the art, gleaming that audiences are more discriminating about audio/video quality, Tartan would live up to our expectations. But, no.

I peruse that there are several sellers dumping their customary discs here at Amazon. I recommend that you honest engage up one of those rather than Tartan’s shameless release…

Testsuo: the iron man may be a difficult film for a lot of people. you will probably either adore it or reflect in is trash. this film struck a deeply personaly chord within me, so it is difficult to write about it objectivly. as a teenager i dreamnt of a film shot in gritty dismal and white that would deal with terrifing and ghostly subjects. this film is it. tsukamoto is a genius for this film. the effects are gross buget to the max, but when is the last time your nightmare had a expansive effects buget? the film actually follows a residence line somewhat resembling a Noh play, except very convoluted; the man runs the fetishist over with his car, and then has sex with his girlfriend in frount of the fetishist’s broken body. because of this sexual arousal in the presense of machine induced death, the man is cursed with his sexual/physical merging with the machiene realm. the fetishist wants revenge. the visual enact of the film is beyond fabulous, and the music is perfect. very few films incorporate music into the visuals as fundamentally as this one (bergman’s Persona and otomo’s AKIRA are also titanic examples) . this film implanted itself into my brain like a shard of metal. retain an begin mind when you peek this film, and don’t jump to conclusions and judgements. if you can withstand the films attack, you will catch it to be truly handsome and rewarding.

“Because you are fond of fairy tales,” Beatrix Potter wrote to one of her popular children in 1901, “I have made you a account all for yourself, a unique one that nobody has read before.”

Buy,Download, Or Stream Miss Potter! Click Here

Now, a century later, “Miss Potter” (directed by Chris Noonan, starring Rene Zellweger) has a unusual chronicle to scream, and quite a fairy memoir it is, too, with all the luscious magic of one of Beatrix Potter’s believe stories: winsome characters, savory settings, strong period details. I was charmed by this film (viewed on DVD, with all the extras), and spent an enchanted evening watching it. As a movie, it is lovely family entertainment–something that’s hard to approach by, these days.

But the film has been widely billed as a biopic, and if you were looking for a memoir that’s moral to Beatrix’s life, this one might mislead you. Richard Maltby (who wrote the script and spent some 10 years trying to win it produced) and Chris Noonan have teamed up to give us a handsome fairy anecdote, but one that is based on some fairly fundamental misrepresentations of Beatrix’s right life.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Miss Potter! Click Here

Take that clarify Christmas party, for instance, in a festooned Potter mansion. This dramatically pivotal event could never have happened, for Rupert and Helen Potter were Dissenters who did not celebrate Christmas–much to Beatrix’s disappointment, as a child longing for a tree and the trimmings. (In life, both the Potters seem to have been mighty more dour people than their on-screen representations.)

Or assume those childhood visits to the Lake Districts, which never happened either. The Potters holidayed in Scotland until Beatrix was 16. Which means that she could not have met Willie Heelis, who was nearly five years younger than Beatrix, anyway (not older, as the film portrays him) . Oh, and Willie was the son of a rector and the Heelis family belonged to quite a different social class from the one in which Willie is placed in the film. More misrepresentation (although the on-screen Willie is a genuine charmer.)

But the most miserable distortion of all is the decision to collapse the eight years it took for Beatrix to become independent enough to leave her parents. The film portrayed Norman’s death as the lever that pried her from the Potters’ recall. Not so. Beatrix bought Hill Top a few months after Norman died in 1905, but did not leave her parents until 1913, when she married Willie. For eight long, difficult years, Beatrix commuted from her parents’ home or holiday state to Sawrey. During that time, she could come by away only five or six times a year, sometimes for a few days, sometimes for as worthy as a fortnight. Norman’s death was indeed the prod she needed to do a change, but it wasn’t until Willie offered her another choice that she was finally able to free herself. Compressing this long-running family conflict into a matter of months and hinging the whole thing on Norman’s death distorts Beatrix’s character and makes her seem more decisively “recent” than she was in precise life.

As a novelist engaged in creating historical fictions (some of them featuring Beatrix Potter), I am always aware of the challenges of representing valid people in fictional contexts, and inconvenience when actual lives are seriously distorted to manufacture a myth more spirited. I enjoyed this film as a film, and give it five stars for its entertainment value. As a biopic, I’d give it a two, three to be profitable. Putting the two together, a four-minus.

Oh, and for the right narrative of Beatrix’s life, you’ll want to read Beatrix Potter: A Life in Nature by Linda Lear.

Susan Wittig Albert is the author of The Cottage Tales of Beatrix Potter: The Memoir of Hill Top Farm (The Cottage Tales of Beatrix Potter), The Myth of Holly How, The Account of Cuckoo Brow Wood (Cottage Tales of Beatrix Potter Mysteries), The Chronicle of Hawthorn House: The Cottage Tales of Beatrix Potter, and four other forthcoming novels in the series.

I saw this gorgeous film this past week in Chicago at a preview showing and was simply overjoyed by it. Only five years ago this would have been a Miramax film, but following the messy departure of the Weinsteins from Miramax to effect their fill production company, they are distributing this joint production. Plot in the early decades of the twentieth century, in a sort of extended Edwardian age, the film possesses a incredible period feel and scrutinize. Like the best of the Miramax films, it feels like a time capsule more than a contemporary production.

With only some shame I have to admit to luminous very limited about Beatrix Potter. To inject some autobiography, I was not read Potter as a child and though after my divorce I raised my daughter, reading to her constantly, there was an agreement that on her periodic visits to her mother she would be allowed to read her Beatrix Potter (because of a Potter obsession by her believe godmother) and Laura Ingalls Wilder. I read my daughter every other children’s’ writer, but was forbidden to dip into either of those. So I saw this biopic sparkling next to nothing about her. The film seemed to me to give a grand impression of who she was. She emerges in the film as a sort of frightened feminist, not a activist, but quietly insisting on taking her absorb path. Though there are flashbacks to her childhood and the final quarter of the film focuses on her spellbinding to the Lake District, most of the film deals with the period of partnership and eventually romance between her and her publisher, Norman Warne. One suspects that of necessity a ample deal is left out, but as it exists it is compelling. I did a bit of checking on the Internet and discovered that she was not 32 in 1903, so the film obviously fudges some numbers, but as presented the film mild provided a luscious portrait.

Renée Zellweger is astonishing in the title role. I have seen photographs of Beatrix Potter and there does not seem to be noteworthy of a resemblance between the two. To the film’s credit, they do a grand deal to de-emphasize Zellweger’s loveliness. She isn’t exactly uninteresting, but she isn’t as radiant as usual. But she brings a luscious simplicity to her role. Ewan McGregor is lovely in his role, but unlike their sorrowful film DOWN WITH Admire, his role is not equal to hers in this one. He manages to be everything he needs to be. Emily Watson plays his sister. There are movie stars and there are actresses, and she is an actress. I have always been amazed at considerable her various roles can differ from one another. A lot of actresses, unfortunately, as they approach the age of forty, have probably reached halt to the slay of their career. Watson is so comely, however, and those stout eyes so expressive, that you sense that she probably hasn’t reached half of her eventual film resume. I’m determined we’ll be seeing her in roles thirty-five years from now. It was noble to gape Bill Paterson as Beatrix’s father. He has always been one of my approved supporting actors and for my money we have always seen far too limited of him. Traditional British actress Barbara Flynn is favorable as well as Beatrix’s mother.

Chris Noonan directed the film. The last time we encountered him as a director was in one of the most delectable films of the nineties, BABE. I have absolutely no conception what he has been up to the past decade, but this film has some of the same lush ogle that BABE did. Interestingly, animals feature prominently in both films.

The last fragment of the film, that centers on the beginning of the final chapter of Potter’s life as a farmer in the Lake District, features some of the most exquisite landscapes you can ever hope to notice in a movie. The raze of the film indicates that Miss Potter left 4,000 acres of Lake District property to the National Trust. I hope that some of those scenes were filmed on some of that property.

Finally, I want to add that while I’ve never been one to be on the lookout for “family” (which to me usually are synonymous with “humdrum” or “bland”), this film, which could easily receive a “G” rating, is a film that any parent could feel comfortable showing any child. Younger children might regain it a bit listless, but any fan of Beatrix Potter, whether young or conventional, will surely relish this film. Indeed, as someone who cannot count himself among her fans (entirely through a complete lack of acquaintance), I can attest that those uncommon with her work will adore the film as well.

For those of you who have a current Director you may have found categorization by character quite frustrating. Personally I don’t care for a whole disc of Bugs, or a whole disc of Daffy; I want a whole disc of Chuck or a whole disc of Friz. Even the exquisite episode lists above, which really do occupy all the information you need, are not organized according to how the episodes appear on the discs in the collection. To remedy this pickle I have the following list to provide you with the episodes, organized in the order they appear on the discs, and who directed them. I hope this proves useful to someone, and will set them from having to do this all over again themselves.

The marketing accumulate said last year defending the omission of “What’s Opera Doc? ” and “One Froggy Evening” from the first volume is that if they had all the best cartoons on the first state what will they do for an encore? Well, even without these two classics this station would composed stand up as a tall sequel to the first volume (Which was objective as estimable despite the pedantic naysayers.)

Here some of the reasons why this space is worth your money;

First off the restoration job is impartial like the first state and it is all uncut, so the addition of all the material which Cartoon Network might judge noxious for your child is included, but let’s survey at some of the best toons…

Porky in Wackyland

Great to search for that they aren’t stupefied to stick a shaded and white cartoon in there especially this immense surreal classic which introduced the Dodo bird.

The Dover Boys

The cartoon that introduced smear animation that was despised by the studio producers but is now faded in practically all television animation. Especially Cartoon Network.

You Ought to Be in Pictures

Great one that has Daffy and Porky interacting with staunch people. The comical thing is the loyal people aren’t actors. They were all workers at Termite Terrace.

Three Runt Bops

Friz Freleng finally let loose a minute with this highly creative swinging select of the three microscopic pigs. I haven’t seen this one in ages, it’s practically Freleng’s best work.

A Corny Concerto

Great parody on Disney’s Fantasia by Bob Clampett. This site really pays tribute to him.

Of course that’s barely even the tip of the iceberg of the quality of this region. All those Road Runner and Sylvester and Tweety cartoons might set aside some people off but I can’t contemplate why you shouldn’t acquire this region if you aren’t a fan… Unless you’re broke I guess…

POST-THOUGHTS;

After seen the area I can say that Warner Bros. is very courageous for including shorts like Have You Got Any Castles uncut. I thank them for that and I’d like to add that disc 4 is the best disc on the dwelling with disc 1 in second state. Other highlights include; Ren And Stimpy creator, John K’s commentary on The Mountainous Piggy Bank Robbery, a dead-serious patriotic short by Chuck Jones called Venerable Glory and the cartoon that got Tex Avery fired; Heckling Hare. I’d also like to reiterate, these shorts are uncut and exactly how they were when they were released with the exception of the blue ribbon title cards. The abrupt ending to Heckling Hare was how that short was originally released and the footage that was meant to be there was gone because the studios didn’t like it and this of course angered Tex Avery. So in case anyone was suspicious about that there’s the explanation, so they are uncut from their fresh release date.

Eugenie (Soledad Miranda) is a stunned girl who lives with her eminent writer stepfather (Paul Muller) in an isolated villa. Eugenie wiles away her days dressing like a streetwalker and sneaking peeks at hot titles in the library. One day she stumbles on to a slim volume that blends eroticism with slay. Her stepfather confronts her about the illicit eye, but reassures her that “it’s high time you read about such things!” Together they conspire to cancel a low-rent nudie model in Brussels while using their attendance at a Paris nightclub that same evening to screen their tracks. Once successful, they start a killing spree targeting prostitutes. A writer (an unwashed Jesus Franco) is aware of their activities, but does nothing to close them, too mesmerized from afar by their sex-and-death games. Eugenie then sets her sights on a virginal, young jazz musician and jealousy rears its frightful head. Daddy brutally attacks Eugenie and commits suicide, and Eugenie’s deathbed confession falls on Franco’s disapproving, fascinated ears.

Eugenie de Sade has an poor lot of what’s to be expected in any Jesus Franco film. Veteran pans, halting zooms, a few sparsely furnished sets, nightclub scenes and Franco is an extended role. The very same elements appear in the director’s many, many lesser films but with Eugenie de Sade he comes finish to crafting a masterpiece. The film’s success relies heavily on the exiguous shoulders of doomed actress Soledad Miranda, who was to die in a car accident shortly after completion. Frequently seen in a crouching residence, her knees to her aesthetic small face (although in some shots she looks considerable, great older than her 26 years), Miranda creates sexual tension by honest being there. Wearing a red cape, floppy orange hat and oversized sunglasses during the initial abolish, Video Watchdog Tim Lucas would later enthuse how Miranda would be the only actress respectable of carrying off the scene in homely thrift store clothing. Through his muse Miranda, Franco is able to milk mighty romanticism and high melodrama using familiar, shopworn materials.

Another factor contributing to the film’s success is unexpected and small written about: a definite and consistent adherence to themes of the source material. Loosely based on Eugenie De Franval by the Marquis de Sade, Eugenie is a respectful exploration of classic sadism. In an interview included on the Blue Underground disc, Franco explains that as a 16-year-old boy living in Franco’s Spain he was introduced to the works of de Sade from a capable older gentleman’s library. Flabbergasted by the Marquis’ unfavorable writings and clear-headed philosophy, the older gentleman, like the stepfather in the film assured him that “it was high time that he read such things!” Unable to film de Sade’s fantasies on a box lunch budget, the finished product was at once too strong for the producers. Wide-eyed depictions of incest and kill amid the expected naked ladies were seen as off-putting to the European soft core market.

The film is especially damning to those who decide to study it. The film’s credits unspool over some lesbian groping by Miranda and a exquisite blonde, and the viewer assumes that the shaky, handheld photography is unprejudiced par for the course for a cheap sex film. It’s only after Muller comes on to the scene and kills the blonde does it dawn on us that we’re watching a snuff film, being screened with clinical detachment by Franco. De Sade argued that those who see gross acts and do nothing to close them are unbiased as guilty as the perpetrators.

On a more personal level … in my tedious teens I was given a thick book of de Sade’s writings by an older relative, who perhaps decided that I was of age and it was also high time that I read such things. Fascinated and repelled, I would go on to do a research paper on de Sade, aided and abetted by an older female professor who I suspect was romantically involved in me, who was at once disgusted, but wanted to know more … but I digress.

A final palatable tidbit is the interview with Franco included on the Blue Underground disc, which concludes with him forcefully denying that he and Miranda were lovers, but had a “father-daughter” relationship. As several others have pointed out, that’s DEFINITELY not the impression he wants to leave the viewer with after they look this particular film!

Long ago and far away this kink classic was set aside together on a puny budget. A must for collectors of kink.

Sitting on the couch with my 2 year archaic son, I’ve become something of a connoisseur of children’s movies at this point. To be blunt, most of the novel “Pooh” films from Disney are sparkling remarkable garbage. The Piglet and Roo movies are especially painful, and got tossed out after about 1/2 a viewing each. In both of those, the characters are unprejudiced being yanked and shoved through the motions by a giant, souless marketing machine that is obvious to squeeze yet more cash out of them, even if it has to waste them in the process.

This “Tigger Movie” is different though. Again and again I found that it moved me to tears, and the yarn, animation and writing all hit home, almost like they were created by people who actually cared deeply about what they were doing. So far, it’s the only one of the novel Pooh films I’ve seen that captures considerable of the recent Disney/A.A. Milne magic. My son loves it too.

When I first heard this movie was coming out, my main query was why a theatrical release instead of direct-to-video? Many Disney sequels have gone that route, including the last feature-length Winnie the Pooh film, The Search for Christopher Robin.

The simple fact of the matter is probably that Disney figured they could produce more money with a theatrical release (it came out with absolutely no competition for its intended audience) . Happily, it’s also honest that this movie was a step above the usual direct-to-video fare. Most of the animation was uninspired (it’s easy to insist there are fewer frames per second than in major Disney theatrical releases), but the scripts and swear acting were actually quite edifying.

I’ve been a fan of the Winnie the Pooh stuff for what seems like forever, so it’s hard for me NOT to savor any of it. But the simple, hearwarming myth of Tigger’s discovery of himself and how powerful his friends really care about him honest works. Distinct, it’s a childlike chronicle, but isn’t that the target audience? We’re not looking for Citizen Kane when we turn to Winnie the Pooh. We’re looking for comfort and wait on to be who we are. It’s a gigantic message for kids, and this movie does a mammoth job of presenting it.

I was a bit trepidatious when I saw that Jim Cummings (the recount of Pooh in all but the unusual shorts) was taking over for Paul Winchell as the snort of Tigger. Turns out that he does an fantastic Paul Winchell impression! Very impressive declare acting in this one — really quite seamless.

In 1985, Pulitzer-prize winning author and astronomer Carl Sagan (1934-1996) wrote a intelligent “what-if” scenario in his new entitled “Contact”. In the fresh, Carl Sagan created a scenario in which his protagonist, a radio astronomer named Dr. Eleanor Ann ‘Ellie’ Arroway, discovers an extraterrestrial radio transmission that is clearly from an incandescent alien source. The discovery causes intense debate between the proponents of science, religion and government that eventually leads to some very compelling questions on the nature of faith itself. In 1997, the original was transformed into a film of the same name under the direction of the renowned director Robert Zemeckis, who had previously directed “Forrest Gump” (1994, for which Zemeckis won the Oscar for Best Director), “Death Becomes Her” (1992), “Abet to the Future” (1985) and “Romancing the Stone” (1984) .

Carl Sagan, with assistance from writers Ann Druyan, James V. Hart and Michael Goldenberg, slightly modified the new fable by giving Dr. Arroway (played by Jodie Foster) a more personal adversary in another astronomer, Dr. David Drumlin (played by Tom Skerritt) . At the beginning of the film, a brief exploration of Dr. Arroway’s childhood (played by Jena Malone) is provided that helps to achieve her purely scientific perception of reality that resulted in section from the passing away of her father, Ted Arroway (David Morse), who had also encouraged her savor of science, astronomy and radio communications. As an astronomer, Dr. Arroway dedicated her work to the SETI project (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence), which Dr. Drumlin considers frivolous and potentially damaging to Dr. Arroway’s credibility. With her governmental funding carve, Dr. Arroway eventually gets private funding after she approaches one of the world’s richest and most influential men, S. R. Hadden (John Harm) . With funding secured, Dr. Arroway’s search continues at the Very Substantial Array (VLA) approach Socorro, Modern Mexico. With her unorthodox arrangement of personally listening to outer spot static, Dr. Arroway suddenly and unexpectedly hears a bizarre dwelling of sounds. She immediately gets her team, which includes Kent Clark (William Fichtner), busy working on analyzing the signal, which likely comes from an extraterrestrial source. Once verified, she announces her discovery to the world via the news media, to the disdain of governmental officials including Dr. Drumlin, National Security Advisor Michael Kitz (James Woods) and then President Bill Clinton (himself via archive footage) . It also gains explosive response from very religious individuals who don’t necessarily allotment Dr. Arroway’s enthusiasm, except for Father Palmer Joss (Matthew McConaughey), whom Dr. Arroway met in Puerto Rico in a more than casual sense. The shriek of the message itself raises some very mountainous questions.

What really brought Carl Sagan’s vision to life in “Contact” was placing it within a contemporary timeframe. This included the exercise of many proper events, people and places that included CNN, the VLA, the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico and many cameos from recent politicians the television personalities (Jay Leno, Larry King, Geraldine A. Ferraro, Geraldo Rivera to name only a few) . Also, Robert Zemeckis placed actors within archival footage in mighty the same arrangement as he did with the film “Forrest Gump” in 1994. All of this, as well as proper acting from the important actors (Jodie Foster, Tom Skerrit, Matthew McConaughey, John Pain, William Fichtner and James Woods), expansive cinematography, incredible sets and gargantuan special effects design this a shining film. Other memorable characters include Rachel Constantine (Angela Bassett), Richard Obnoxious (Select Lowe), the NASA Mission Director (Tucker Smallwood) and Joseph (Jake Busey) . Some of the most memorable scenes in the film include Dr. Arroway hearing the message at the VLA, the public response, the political discussions, Dr. Arroway meeting S.R. Hadden, the machine, Dr. Arroway’s relationship with Palmer, the pinnacle event and its aftermath.

Overall, I rate “Contact” with a resounding 5 out of 5 stars. In my understanding, it portrays many very probable debates and reactions if astronomers ever actually do notice gleaming extraterrestrial communication signals. I applaud Carl Sagan for his vision, as well as Robert Zemeckis and the many actors and other people fervent with the making of this very absorbing and compelling film.

This is not your typical sci-fi movie. If you want spaceships blasting each other or injurious aliens with mental powers, try Star Wars or Dismal City. This is the culmination of a lifetime spent communicating the awesome potential of scientific discovery in layman’s terms. I am, of course, speaking of Carl Sagan, the heart and soul of this movie.

Sagan’s vision, so eloquently translated by Robert Zemeckis and brought to life by Jodie Foster and Matthew McConaughey, is a realistic exploration of mankind’s reaction to first contact with extraterrestrial intelligence. Skepticism, hope, wonder, apprehension, distrust, and wide-eyed enthusiasm greet the “Message from Vega.” Zemeckis stays apt to Sagan and delivers a thoughtful character peruse, a surprisingly even-handed debate on religion and science, and a commentary on mankind’s readiness for entry into the Galactic milieu.

One of the finest and most scientifically (circa 1990’s) right sci-fi dramas of the past 10 years. (Except for the fact that we search thousands of frequencies at once, so humans don’t actually listen to signals from set.) Foster’s performance is worth the stamp of the movie.

As so many other people I decided to notice this film because I was impressed by the colorful “Oldboy” and wanted to check the previous work of this ravishing Korean director. Although “Sympathy for Mr Vengeance” is a slight bit less impressive than “Oldboy”, it is very noteworthy with some very brutal scenes of inappropriate revenge methods. The yarn has many surprises, and some attend and forth movement regarding the time sequence, but the finale is unpredictable and hard hitting indeed!

Old Boy is like eating cooked salmon.
